Overview
Contract role – Manufacturing Engineer (Inside IR35). 6 months initially. Location – West Midlands.
Responsibilities
- Act as the SAP S/4HANA subject matter expert during the organisation’s transition to SAP S/4HANA, bridging Manufacturing Engineering with the ERP platform; provide manufacturing technical knowledge from design to manufacture, including feeding information into the design team for DFM and enabling new technologies and capabilities.
- Identify, facilitate, and implement process improvements, including business case development to demonstrate gains in productivity, efficiency, quality, or other metrics; aim to eliminate waste and improve visibility of operations.
- Act as Manufacturing Engineering Key User during SAP S/4HANA implementation, ensuring business requirements are represented during design, testing, and deployment.
- Develop strong expertise in S/4HANA modules relevant to manufacturing (e.g., Material Master, Production Planning, Production Execution, and Manufacturing Data Management).
- Support the definition, setup, and ongoing maintenance of Material Masters, Bills of Materials (BoM), Routings, Work Centres, and Production Versions to ensure data accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
- Participate in and lead elements of User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for manufacturing-related transactions and scenarios, validating system behaviour against real-world shop floor requirements.
- Collaborate with ERP project teams, consultants, and business stakeholders to map existing manufacturing processes into S/4HANA, identify gaps, and propose solutions.
- Train and support fellow Manufacturing Engineers and shop floor users in new processes and transactions within SAP, acting as the “go-to” expert within the team.
- Post Go Live, provide first-line support and troubleshooting for manufacturing-related system issues, escalating as required.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to better use S/4HANA functionality to streamline planning, scheduling, and production execution.
- Demonstrate extensive hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA and a strong understanding of how manufacturing processes translate into ERP transactions.
- Act as an effective bridge between technical ERP specialists and practical manufacturing operations; maintain a data-driven mindset with attention to accuracy, structure, and compliance.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of industrial experience in a manufacturing role.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including at least two of: Machining, Mechanical assembly, Welding, Electronic/electrical assembly.
- Extensive hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how they translate into ERP transactions.
- Ability to act as an effective bridge between technical ERP specialists and practical manufacturing operations.
