Client base is St Neots, Cambridgeshire but the role can be REMOTE (client site visits and meetings at St Neots as required).
Acts as a design authority for an engineering discipline with medium complexity. Completes assignments on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.
Core Responsibilities- Technical contribution
- Acts as a technical lead and approves design deliverables.
- Reviews all project documents for conformity, safety, cybersecurity, and quality assurance requirements.
- Anticipates and solves unprecedented design problems, crucial issues, and/or unique conditions.
- Serves as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods.
- Defines focus areas / priorities for design to ensure technological excellence.
- Customer and Sales
- Works with the customer to shape and deliver solutions and seeks customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements.
- Finalizes 'fail-safe philosophy', 'secure-by-design principles', and other key concepts as part of kick-off and design freeze meetings.
- Participates in project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations.
- Assists in preparing proposal / presentation of engineering projects / programs.
- Technical leadership and knowledge sharing
- Applies design thinking / design for excellence concepts in projects, including modelling, prototyping, simulation, and calculations.
- Performs project peer-reviews and utilizes checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.
- Contributes and shares experiences in workshops related to engineering design, tools, and processes.
- Coaches engineering colleagues on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, best practices, and lessons learned from past projects.
- Processes and tools
- Develops, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and tools.
- Ensures that engineering activities comply with safety and cybersecurity regulations and standards and contractual requirements.
- Reports processes and tools inefficiencies and suggests ideas for improvements.
- Risk and opportunity management
- Assesses and addresses technical risks and opportunities.
- Contract management
- Ensures that Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM).
- Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from project manager.
- Planning and control
- Creates work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects in consultation with respective project managers.
- Ensures quality and timely implementation of projects within the targeted cost.
- Supply Chain management
- Prepares RFQs to meet contractual requirements and provides technical evaluation of suppliers' proposals.
- Collaborates with the supply chain function and the project manager(s) to meet the contractual requirements.
- Manufacturing and Testing
- Coordinates with manufacturing and testing functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured / staged and tested.
- Ensures the engineering deliverables as built are updated.
- Commissioning and Service
- Coordinates with commissioning / service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned and ensures the engineering deliverables are updated post installation and commissioning (if applicable as part of the contract).
- License to Operate / Core Values
- Reports any integrity, compliance, safety, cybersecurity, quality, contract, program, and cost issues to the management and / or project manager(s) for resolution.
- Ensures that engineering activities and deliverables comply with safety regulations and cybersecurity regulations and standards and contractual requirements.
- Ensures that Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations.
- Identifies and implements change / variation requests based on the approval from project manager.
- Ensures the project meets the technical requirements of the contract and is technically completed as part of contract closure activities.
- Collaboration / Leadership
- Works closely with project manager right from the receipt of contract / order till closure to meet the technical requirements of the contract.
