Contract role - HSE Manager (Inside IR35)

Duration - 4 months initial (Sick cover)

Location - Stafford

Candidate needs to speak English and French.

The HSE Manager is responsible for ensuring that an organization and its employees adhere to EHS standards and for shaping and maintaining the organization's safety culture. His/her duties include:

  • Implementing organizational safety rules
  • Promoting a culture of safety in the workplace
  • Performing regular site inspections to check compliance in order to prevent incidents, minimize resource leakage, improve efficiency and employee satisfaction, at all levels
  • Conducting safety training for relevant employees at the site
  • Collaborating with other departments such as GSC operations, facility management, quality, etc.
  • Reviewing safety measures to save lives and improve working standards

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing the HSE strategy aligned with corporate goals and local regulatory requirements for his/her site
  • Leading EHS performance for his/her site, supporting his/her cross‐functional site leadership team
  • Driving continuous improvement through performance metrics, audits, and risk assessments
  • Reviewing and building safety risk assessments applicable for the task
  • Reviewing all work procedures and ensuring they meet GA and industry safety standards
  • Ensuring full compliance with UK EHS laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Monitoring legislative changes and assessing their impact on business operations
  • Establishing injury prevention initiatives focused on world‐class health and safety performance and conducting incident investigations
  • Providing feedback on lessons learned and best practice from other sites to management and employees
  • Reporting on EHS performance and progress on implementation of EHS objectives and key performance indicators
  • Overseeing and ensuring safe work of external contractors
  • Conducting in‐house training sessions on health and safety awareness
  • Acting as an ambassador by planning, implementing, reviewing and monitoring the EHS Management System
  • Interacting with other sites and EHS Managers to share and leverage best practice
  • Implementing and adhering to the EHS Management System framework

Operational Safety:

  • Developing or supporting risk assessment
  • Reviewing and verifying the EHS plan/risk assessment
  • Reviewing applicable life‐saving rules as per the portfolio and implementing the procedures and legal EHS requirements
  • Identifying and submitting all applicable EHS permits required for site operation in a timely manner
  • Developing site emergency response plan and incident management team; ensuring an appropriate emergency plan is in place and regularly exercised (drills, tracking action closures)
  • Acting as the health and safety focal point for employee representatives and committees
  • Preparing EHS topics for employee representative meetings
  • Presenting EHS matters in employee representative meetings
  • Addressing concerns raised by employee representatives
  • Collaborating with employee representatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment
  • Ensuring transparent and constructive communication with employee representatives

Management System:

  • Understanding high‐risk operations, EHS core requirements and technical standards
  • Leading implementation of FW3.0, including nominating, training, coaching and following up on element owners
  • Developing action plans for identified gaps in collaboration with relevant owners
  • Coordinating ISO 14001 and other environmental certifications and audits
  • Overseeing environmental programs including waste management, emissions, energy use and sustainability initiatives
  • Coordinating ISO 45001 and other health & safety certifications and audits

Site Management:

  • Investigating accidents/incidents and identifying preventative actions for the site
  • Supporting Genba walks
  • Managing contractors
  • Supporting the operational and services team to meet compliance with the EHS contractor management procedure

Inspections:

  • Preparing, tracking and following EHS inspection plans
  • Preparing, tracking and following quarterly Genba walk plans
  • Conducting frequent EHS inspections to ensure adherence to client and UK law requirements; developing and tracking associated corrective actions

Training:

  • Assigning trainings to employees based on the job profile through GE Vernova Learning
  • Managing training of contingent workers/sub‐contractors based on job profile and tasks
  • Coordinating regulatory training planning and organization; tracking compliance

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in a multinational or industrial setting
  • Strong knowledge of French and EU EHS regulations
  • Certification in ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or equivalent standards is a plus
  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross‐site teams
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English (written and verbal)
