Contract role – HSE Manager (Inside IR35)
Duration – 4 months initial (Sick cover)
Location – Stafford

- HSE Manager is responsible for ensuring that an organization and its employees adhere to EHS standards
- HSE Manager is responsible for shaping and maintaining organizations’ safety culture. His/her duties include implementing organizational safety rules, promoting a culture of safety in the workplace and performing regular site inspections to check compliance in order to prevent incidents, minimize resource leakage, improve efficiency and employee satisfaction, at all levels.
- HSE Manager shall conduct safety training for relevant employees at the site. He/she also collaborates with other departments such as GSC operations, facility management, quality, etc. The EHS Manager works across various departments within the business, reviewing safety measures to save lives and improve working standards.
- HSE Manager designs and implements safety procedures and regulations to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries in the workplace. Other duties and responsibilities of an EHS Manager include:
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the HSE strategy aligned with corporate goals and local regulatory requirements for his/her site
- Lead EHS performance for his/her site, supporting his/her cross‑functional site leadership team
- Drive continuous improvement through performance metrics, audits, and risk assessments
- Review and build safety risk assessments applicable for the task
- Review all work procedures and ensure they meet GA and industry safety standards
- Ensure full compliance with UK EHS laws, regulations, and company policies
- Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on business operations
- Establish injury prevention initiatives focused on world‑class health and safety performance and conduct incident investigations
- Provide feedback on lessons learned and best practice from other and GA sites to management and employees
- Report on EHS performance and progress on implementation of EHS objectives and key performance indicators
- Oversee and ensure safe work of external contractors
- Conduct in‑house training sessions on health and safety awareness
- Act as an ambassador by planning, implementing, reviewing and monitoring the EHS Management System
- Interact with other sites and EHS Managers to share and leverage best practice
- Implement and adhere to the EHS Management System framework
Operational Safety
- Develop or support risk assessment
- Review and verify the EHS plan/risk assessment
- Review applicable life‑saving rules as per the portfolio and implement the procedures and legal EHS requirements
- Identify and submit all applicable EHS permits required for site operation in a timely manner
- Develop site emergency response plan and incident management team; ensure an appropriate emergency plan is in place and regularly exercised (drills, tracking action closures)
- Act as the health and safety focal point for employee representatives and committees
- Prepare EHS topics for employee representative meetings
- Present EHS matters in employee representative meetings
- Address concerns raised by employee representatives
- Collaborate with employee representatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment
- Ensure transparent and constructive communication with employee representatives
Management System
- Understand high‑risk operations, EHS core requirements and technical standards
- Lead implementation of FW3.0, including nominating, training, coaching and following up on element owners
- Develop action plans for identified gaps in collaboration with relevant owners
- Coordinate ISO 14001 and other environmental certifications and audits
- Oversee environmental programs including waste management, emissions, energy use and sustainability initiatives
- Coordinate ISO 45001 and other health & safety certifications and audits
Site Management
- Investigate accidents/incidents and identify preventative actions for the site
- Support Genba walks
- Manage contractors
- Support the operational and services team to meet compliance with the EHS contractor management procedure
Inspections
- Prepare, track and follow EHS inspection plans
- Prepare, track and follow quarterly Genba walk plans
- Conduct frequent EHS inspections to ensure adherence to client and UK law requirements; develop and track associated corrective actions
Training
- Assign trainings to employees based on the job profile through GE Vernova Learning
- Manage training of contingent workers/sub‑contractors based on job profile and tasks
- Coordinate regulatory training planning and organization; track compliance
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in a multinational or industrial setting
- Strong knowledge of French and EU EHS regulations
- Certification in ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or equivalent standards is a plus
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross‑site teams
- Excellent communication skills in French and English (written and verbal)
