About the role:
Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the post holder is accountable for overseeing both strategic and day-to-day management of Occupational Health and Hygiene, providing competent Health (Inc. Wellbeing) & Hygiene advice and support to operating and non-operating functions, enabling legislative and SHE requirements to be met or exceeded. The role leads and co-ordinates Health and Wellbeing improvement initiatives within our client to deliver SHE excellence.
The post holder will be Subject Matter Expert for Occupational Health & Hygiene, advising on key matters of regulatory compliance across all geographic and functional areas
Role Responsibilities:
• Own and performance manage attainment of occupational Health & Hygiene elements of annual SHE improvement plan and longer-term SHE strategy;
• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of current regulation and proposed regulatory changes, translating into appropriate management system requirements to promote strong regulatory compliance;
• Contribute to delivery of wellbeing improvement plan through THRIVE, working closely with Human Resources, Occupational Health provider and wider internal stakeholders to promote positive wellbeing and engagement;
• Provide technical expertise during the planning and execution phases of set piece events (Projects and Major Events) in support of managing health related risks to ALARP;
• Lead onsite monitoring where required; providing coaching and training to operations team where required to underpin the principles of occupational hygiene;
• Provide coaching to SHE Professionals in relation to occupational hygiene principles to enhance capability;
• Provide technical leadership and direction to third party Legionella contractors, Duty Holders and SHE Advisors;
• Develop and maintain an integrated suite of Occupational Health & Hygiene management system requirements for the business. Undertake Level 2 Assurance checks on compliance against relevant management system areas. Define appropriate Health & Hygiene KPIs to enable benchmarking against industry best practice, bringing visibility to performance and gap closure activities;
• Define Occupational Health & Hygiene requirements within our client based on role profiles in conjunction with HR, enabling targeted health risk management to be deployed across the company throughout the employment lifecycle;
• Manage Occupational Hygiene resources for sites. This includes specification of suitable monitoring equipment and determining requirements for its maintenance, training and use.
Role Features:

  • Requires periodic travel to sites as required including Aberdeen and offshore;

Role Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene (BOHS) or equivalent
• Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)
• Chartered Member of Faculty of Occupational Hygiene
Minimum Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience that includes;
o Experience of advising organisations of Occupational Health and Hygiene issues arising from a wide range of plants and processes and the application of OH standards, preferably in the oil and gas / chemicals industry
o Understanding of current and impending regulatory requirements for Occupational Hygiene compliance, including COSHH, DSE, Noise at Work Regulations, Ionising Radiation Regulations, PPE, Vibration, Non Ionising Radiation, Thermal Environment
o Delivering a Health Surveillance Programme to maintain and protect the health and safety of employees
• Detailed knowledge of current best practice and developments in Occupational Hygiene
• Experience working with an Occupational Health Provider to deliver Health and Wellbeing Initiatives
Job-Specific Skills:
• Ability to apply underlying principles of Occupational Hygiene to a variety of site related issues to find practical solutions to allow businesses to perform effectively and meet relevant Regulations
• Ability to effectively manage external relationships with regulators and other key stakeholders
• Strong facilitating, influencing, communication and relationship management skills
Job Knowledge Skills:
• Good knowledge of offshore and onshore facility occupational health and hygiene regulatory requirements;
• Familiar with standards and guidelines related to occupational health and hygiene.
