We’re looking for an experienced EICA Engineer to take technical responsibility for electrical, instrumentation, control and automation delivery across major UK water and wastewater projects.
This is a hands-on senior position covering the full project lifecycle, from design development and technical assurance through procurement, construction and commissioning. You’ll work under the MEICA Lead Manager, but will be trusted to lead EICA packages, review external engineering and make sound technical decisions without being heavily supervised.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the development and review of EICA designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Defining MV and LV power distribution architectures, load schedules and single-line diagrams
- Reviewing electrical studies including load flow, voltage drop, short-circuit, protection coordination, selectivity and earthing
- Specifying transformers, switchgear, MCCs, generators, UPS systems, cables and associated electrical equipment
- Preparing and reviewing instrumentation schedules, defining automation architecture and supporting the development of control philosophies and functional design specifications
- Reviewing designs produced by consultants, suppliers and subcontractors, identifying technical risks and ensuring comments are closed
- Coordinating EICA interfaces with Process, Mechanical, Civil and Commissioning teams
- Preparing technical specifications, RFQs and bid evaluations for equipment packages
- Supporting Target Cost development and identifying opportunities to improve cost, programme and whole-life performance
- Managing technical queries and design changes during construction
- Coordinating systems integrators and reviewing PLC and SCADA configuration
- Supporting FATs, functional testing and commissioning activities
- Identifying issues that could affect safety, operability, cost or programme, including the preparation of technical Early Warnings where required
Experience:
- At least five years’ EICA experience delivering water or wastewater treatment projects
- A solid electrical engineering background covering MV/LV distribution, MCCs, protection, earthing and equipment selection
- Experience with instrumentation, PLC, SCADA and process-control systems
- Experience delivering EICA designs from feasibility or concept through detailed design, construction and commissioning
- The ability to review and challenge designs produced by consultants, suppliers and subcontractors
- Experience supporting technical procurement, bid evaluation and supplier management
- Confidence working across multiple engineering disciplines and presenting technical solutions to clients and project teams
- Experience leading EICA packages, technical teams or multidisciplinary engineering activities
Chartered status would be useful, but practical technical delivery and UK water-sector experience are more important.
This position would suit someone who still enjoys the engineering itself but wants significant responsibility for technical delivery.
You’ll be involved across design, procurement, construction and commissioning rather than being limited to one narrow stage of the project. You’ll also be able to influence technical decisions, challenge external designs and help shape how EICA packages are delivered.
