12 month role – PAYE Aberdeen – Hybrid working

Purpose of Role

Provides expert environmental support across UK Business Unit activities. The role supports the Environmental Manager in leading and coordinating the environmental function and is expected to provide high‑level input into environmental strategy, compliance assurance, regulator engagement, and performance improvement. The postholder will deputise for the Environmental Manager as required and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the environmental discipline.

Critical Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and the client’s HSES Procedures, Values, Behaviours and Process Safety.

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence

  • Provide expert environmental advice to UKBU project teams on legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of complex regulatory permit and consent applications across the UKBU, ensuring UKBU alignment and efficiency.
  • Oversee and assure environmental compliance with UK regulatory frameworks.
  • Build strong working relationships and represent the client in proactive engagements with key regulators (e.g. OPRED, SEPA, EA).
  • Lead environmental risk assessments (e.g. ENVIDs, EIAs), including the evaluation and selection of Best Practicable Environmental Options (BPEO) for high‑risk or complex activities.
  • Lead the continual improvement and governance of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Perform high‑level environmental data analysis and trend reporting using tools such as Excel and Power BI, identifying weak signals and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead development and delivery of environmental training programmes and awareness sessions.
  • Oversee management of contracts related to environmental services (e.g., waste, NORM, specialist consultancy).
  • Lead and coordinate environmental inspections, internal and external audits, and incident investigations.
  • Trained Lead Auditor (ISO 14001) and incident investigation (e.g. COMET) experience is preferred.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional engagement between HSES, asset and project teams, and contractor interfaces.
  • Deputise for the Environmental Manager and provide leadership, coaching, and coordination to junior team members.
  • Participate in the emergency response rota and provide environmental input during exercises or live responses.

Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.

  • Degree‑qualified professional with extensive offshore/onshore experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Preferred: Chartered environmental professional (e.g., CEnv or equivalent) and member of a recognised professional body with ongoing CPD.
  • Preferred: Trained Lead Auditor (ISO 14001) and incident investigation (e.g. COMET) certification.
  • Strong leadership and project coordination capabilities across multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Advanced data analytics skills using Power BI, Excel, and environmental data systems, with proven ability to extract insights for continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to represent the client externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic improvements through effective root cause analysis and change implementation.
  • Expert knowledge and experience of:
    • UK North Sea environmental legislation and policy
    • UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) and emissions regulation
    • GHG accounting, flare and venting management
    • Produced water and chemical discharges under OPPC
    • Waste, NORM, and decommissioning compliance requirements
