Java/C++ Software Desktop Engineer - Permanent - Abingdon, Oxfordshire \n \n \n Hybrid - 3 days on site, 2 days remote\n \n No sponsorship available\n \n
Java/C++ Software Desktop Engineer Job Duties \n \n \n Responsible for designing, codes, tests, trouble-shoots & documents engineering systems applications.
The Java/C++ Software Engineer will be expected to have experience of common tools & processes used to design, code, test, trouble-shoot, document engineering systems applications.
Develops test strategies used in the automated regression testing of these systems.
Follows secure coding practices, performs triaging of security issues, & implements fixes to deliver secure applications.
Familiar with common software vulnerabilities & leading practices to mitigate.
Should have some experience in researching open- source technologies for use in building systems & participate in open-source communities as needed.
Works on projects of moderate scope & complexity.
Pro-actively identifies areas for improvement within the software system & processes.
Develops assignments & schedules.
Requires completion of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or similar discipline, & 4 years of related experience.\n \n
- Java/C++ Software Desktop Engineer Key Responsibilities: \n \n \n
- Work on a team to deliver new products, features & fixes iteratively using an Agile Scrum approach working with the Team Lead, Product Owner, Scrum Master, Developers & QAs \n
- Working with the architects & other developers, provide technical input to the Product Owner. \n
- Communicate & escalate issues in a clear & timely manner \n
- Team management including day to day & career development for team members \n
- This is a hands-on role & will be expected to take an active part in development work \n
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing & emerging technologies relevant to the role \n
- Working & collaborating with remote teams around the world \n \n
Qualifications & Experience \n
Essential Attributes: \n \n \n
- 4+ years of experience in Software development of complex applications. Excellent understanding of design principles & considerations, best practice \n
- 4+ years of Java & C++ development experience \n
- History of applying best practices, code reviews & quality checks \n
- Familiarity with build pipeline tools & technologies such as Gitlab \n
- Must be self-motivated but needs to work well in a team environment \n
- Excellent analytical, communication & problem-solving skills \n
- Self-Starter; willing to learn new technologies, ability to learn fast \n \n

- Knowledge of Eclipse RCP & Eclipse OSGi \n
- Swing & SWT experience \n
- Understanding of Machine Learning technologies (Python, Tensor Flow etc.) \n
- Experience in Geophysics &/or Geology domain especially Oil & Gas \n
- Undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent \n
- Agile Scrum certification \n
- Experienced in working with remote teams \n
