We are multi‑disciplinary experts that work on international projects to create successful ports, shipyards and maritime infrastructure worldwide. We have become one of the world’s leading consultants in the wind ports sector and have recently authored key industry studies looking at floating offshore wind and we are developing designs of a range of different port facilities and providing expert advice on the commercial, technical and operational aspects of wind farm assembly and construction port requirements.
What you will do as Maritime Civil Engineer / Port Planner
As a Maritime Civil Engineer / Port Planner, you will be an important part of the team responsible for carrying out studies, masterplans and designs of a range of Wind Port projects. You will approach the role from the perspective of either:
- A maritime civil engineering background from a port or shipyard, or
- An offshore renewable energy or O&G developer.
You will work closely with other parts of the business that focus on the commercial and financial aspects, logistics, environmental, geotechnical and other elements of Wind Port development.
Responsibilities
- Developing plans for staging and integration ports based on your knowledge gained from other similar facilities, including marshalling and handling of WTG components and tower foundations, arrangement of facility berths for installation vessels, access channels and marine facilities.
- Master planning and infrastructure design of facilities related to floating offshore wind manufacture and assembly, including assembly areas, launching structures, wet storage, etc.
- Contributing to the digitalisation and innovation in the Wind Port sector, including assembly processes and T&I simulation.
- Managing and leading multi‑disciplinary design and planning projects.
- Engaging with our Wind Ports Sector Director, Technical Director, Project Managers and other team members.
- Technical development and management of maritime design projects, including production of design calculations (structural, fendering/mooring, etc.), checking and reviewing of reports and calculations produced by others.
- Developing proposals and commercial offers.
Where you will work
We work with port owners, offshore wind developers and governmental bodies to provide expert advice on offshore wind port projects including the creation of floating wind manufacturing facilities. The role can be based in either our Newcastle or Edinburgh office.

- Port suitability studies around the UK to support both floating and fixed bottom offshore wind.
- Authored the Renewables UK Industry Roadmap for Floating Offshore Wind.
- North Sea Port Selection – using towage route, Metocean and scenario analysis.
- Prepare Portugal’s ports for offshore wind.
- Developing new facility designs in three different UK ports for Floating Offshore Wind.
What you bring
- Experience in delivering port infrastructure or Wind Port projects.
- Professional experience in the design of ports / heavy civil projects.
- Experience of collaborative working in teams and with other disciplines.
- Focused, articulate and professional in appearance and standard of work.
- Capable of undertaking assignments effectively to achieve technically sound, timely and cost‑effective results.
- Chartered status (or equivalent) with a recognised industry body (e.g., ICE) is preferred.
- A degree in Civil and/or Maritime Engineering or related subject (Masters level is advantageous).
- Approximately 5‑10 years’ experience relevant to the role.
- Willing to travel occasionally throughout the UK and overseas.
