We are seeking an experienced health and safety professional to develop, implement and maintain a health and safety strategy across the company’s three data centres, London office and home working arrangements. The data centres are located in Corsham, Slough and Farnborough. The jobholder will be responsible for embedding a health and safety culture across the organisation. Nephos Technologies is a small company, and this is a hands-on role with a heavy focus on implementation and includes all administrative tasks associated with health and safety provision. The health and safety professional will have access to Peninsula Health & Safety, who provide the company’s health and safety policy along with other relevant information and resources. Peninsula also conducts health and safety audits, but they do not implement the actions or solutions. The role will report to the Chief of Staff. The role is being offered on a contractor basis, on a day rate of £250-£300 per day depending on experience. On joining, the first task will be for the Health and Safety professional to assess what is needed, how best to deliver it and over what time period. We anticipate that the workload will be around two days per week initially, reducing over time once frameworks are in place.
Role Responsibilities
- The health and safety professional will be responsible for embedding a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice.
- Implementation of a comprehensive health and safety framework, including policies, procedures, and systems.
- Work with the company’s health and safety advisor company, Peninsula, to create and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
- Arrange annual site audits from Peninsula and implement the actions required.
- Conduct risk assessments across the organisation identifying hazards and implementing effective control measures.
- Design and deliver engaging health and safety training and communications for all staff, including for induction programmes.
- Ensure full compliance with UK health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Prepare regular reports for senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Support employees who work in data centres and who drive for work with practical guidance on health and safety matters.
- Responsible for the identification and sourcing of effective PPE.
- Oversee the investigation of incidents and near-misses, ensuring lessons are learned, and preventative measures are implemented.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement and high compliance standards.
Technical Skills/Experience
- Proven experience in a senior health and safety role with experience in data centres, office and home working environments.
- Experience of conducting risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- A recognised health and safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH - National Examination Board in Occupational Health & Safety / Institution of Occupational Safety & Health).
- Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practices.
Personal Skills/Attributes
- Legally authorised to work in the UK.
- Able to travel to the London office (Paddington) and the 3 data centres.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to be able to work with and influence stakeholders senior leadership, managers and employees.
- A solution-focused mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- A hands-on approach to implementation.
- A can-do attitude and can roll sleeves up to complete all relevant tasks.
