Overview of the role

We are looking for a Senior Engineer for our UK Parliament contract provision based in central London. The role will take the Lead Engineering role in the contract delivery reporting to the Contract Manager with an indirect reporting line to the Head of Engineering in the business. The role will be a key part of the ‘hands-on’ engineering/support team overseeing the guarantee and maintenance engineers in the contract as well as the interface for all engineering aspects of the delivery with the client’s team. The Lead Engineer is responsible for the technical maintenance and technical operation of all facilities, as well as taking responsibility for the co-ordination and efficient use of the engineering systems and facilities used across all areas of our delivery. The successful candidate will also advise on the required standards and quality of engineering delivery across the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the engineering team to provide timely fault identification and resolution.
  • Mentoring and encouraging the engineering team and multiskilled operators, showing confident leadership skills.
  • Scheduling regular preventative maintenance and testing to ensure the reliability of the technical systems and reporting weekly/monthly on any issues.
  • Maintaining the client’s asset register, supporting the change control process and being a resource to the management team in reporting and advising in regular contract and service review meetings.
  • Overseeing the frontline maintenance and reporting to Level 2 & 3 support contractors (employed by us and the client).
  • The Lead Engineer will also manage our interface to support the installation, upgrade and development projects carried out by the client and their contractors.
  • Leading on engineering projects for the client to include support of the design and acceptance of third party suppliers.
  • Engaging with on-going projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinating and attending commissioning sessions.
  • Accepting systems into service.
  • Managing documentation and information flow into the engineering and operational teams.
  • Arranging training sessions for operational and engineering staff as needed for new facilities.
  • This role will also play a significant part in the planning, testing and delivery for Parliament of Special Event planning and Business Continuity.

The Lead Engineer must be able to demonstrate previous experience in managing and mentoring an engineering team and in adopting a forward looking and innovative approach to the development of engineering systems in order to meet evolving broadcasting needs. Experience directly relevant to Broadcast Engineering is required, as well as recent experience of vision, sound and control systems, including an understanding of IP networking and current broadcast IP standards. The successful candidate would need to be unflappable under pressure and an enthusiastic team player. They will need to demonstrate tangible enthusiasm for the work and real potential for learning, as well as an aptitude and confident attitude to the operation of equipment in live meeting and transmission environments.

Working shifts are normally between 7am and 9pm (early, mid, late etc.) but will be subject to change depending on how the client’s business is scheduled. Your days of work will normally be Monday to Friday, but there may be some weekend working. Should you work more than five days in one week then you will receive a day off ‘in lieu’.

Skills required

  • Knowledge of vision mixers, IP routing systems, video and audio system technologies to include 2110, NDI, Dante, Cerebrum and typical broadcast workflows.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high profile environment.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook packages.
  • An aptitude for technology and software packages.
  • An interest in news, current affairs and politics – a basic understanding of political issues is desirable for this role.
  • Excellent communicator – whether by spoken or written word, telephone or email, good communication skills are vital in this job.
  • Able to work as part of a team, liaising with others and using initiative when working.
  • A desire to learn new systems and commitment to deliver a first class service.
  • A mature and diplomatic approach to our clients.
  • People management and leadership skills with ability to motivate and inspire.
  • Logical thought processes with the ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Understand and comply with new and existing customer processes and policies.
  • Manage, liaise and build productive working relationships with key client stakeholders and representatives, to ensure a positive representation of the business and provide client satisfaction.
