The Vision Engineer plays a critical role in the planning, preparation, and delivery of NEP UK’s complex outside broadcast trucks and flypack systems. This role combines hands‑on technical expertise with strong project ownership, ensuring that vision and media systems are fully engineered, tested, documented, and operationally ready for live production. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across IP (SMPTE ST 2110) and hybrid SDI/IP environments and will act as a technical authority for vision systems, broadcast control, and associated network infrastructure. The role involves close collaboration with production, project management, and engineering teams, as well as on‑site support during live broadcasts.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Delivery: Take technical ownership of vision systems for assigned OB trucks and flypack projects, from design through to delivery. Plan, configure, and validate complex broadcast systems, ensuring they meet operational, technical, and safety requirements. Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, including system diagrams, configuration records, and build notes. Configure, test, and support vision systems including cameras, CCUs, vision mixers, multiviewers, routers, monitoring, and tally systems. Support both SDI and IP‑based workflows, including hybrid environments. Ensure systems are built to NEP UK engineering standards and best practice.
- IP & Networked Production: Design and support SMPTE ST 2110 based production environments, including timing (PTP), multicast flows, and system resilience. Work with network architectures supporting broadcast control, media transport, and management traffic. Configure and support network switches used within broadcast IP environments.
- Broadcast Control & Integration: Configure and support broadcast control systems, including control panels, orchestration, and monitoring tools. Integrate vision systems with replay, audio, comms, and wider media systems.
- Operational Support: Deploy operationally as a Guarantee Vision Engineer on live productions, providing technical leadership on‑site. Support live broadcasts through fault‑finding, escalation management, and rapid problem resolution under pressure. Work closely with production teams and clients to ensure confidence in system performance. Contribute to the evolution of NEP UK’s vision and IP architectures. Share knowledge, mentor junior engineers, and support best practice across the engineering team.
