NEOS Engineering are currently recruiting for an experienced Works Manager to join an established engineering contractor delivering major earthworks. This is a senior site-based opportunity for an experienced Works Manager / Construction Manager with a strong background in bulk earthworks, site operations and managing large teams and subcontractor gangs. You'll take overall responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of site operations, working closely with senior management, engineering and commercial teams to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
THE ROLE
As Works Manager, you'll lead the site-based project team with a particular focus on bulk earthworks, logistics, resource management and subcontractor coordination. You'll be highly visible on site, providing leadership to Foremen and subcontractors while ensuring construction activities meet the required programme, quality and safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the site-based project team, including multiple Foremen and subcontractor gangs.
- Oversee day-to-day bulk earthworks and site logistics.
- Manage labour, plant and resources to maximise productivity and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate site diaries, allocation sheets and project records.
- Review drawings and develop effective construction methods and method statements.
- Coordinate works closely with Senior Management and Engineering teams.
- Support detailed planning and work to a 3-week programme.
- Monitor material usage, machine matching and overall site productivity.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with Series 600 Specification for Highway Works.
- Ensure compliance with construction methods, ITPs and quality requirements.
- Maintain strong relationships with client representatives and other project stakeholders.
- Ensure full compliance with company health & safety policies and procedures.
- Provide strong leadership and maintain a visible presence across the site.
ABOUT YOU
We're looking for an experienced Works Manager with:
- 10+ years' industry experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory/management position.
- Proven experience managing multiple Foremen and subcontractor gangs.
- Strong background in bulk earthworks and major infrastructure projects.
- Good understanding of material usage, machine matching and earthworks logistics.
- Experience using GPS machine guidance systems.
- Ability to work effectively to short-term programmes, including 3-week lookaheads.
- Strong understanding of quality requirements and ITP compliance.
- Experience dealing professionally with client representatives.
- Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, visible approach to site management.
- SMSTS qualification.
- CSCS Gold Card.
- Desirable: CPCS plant qualifications.
- Ability to operate plant such as dumpers, rollers or excavators.
- CSCS Black Card.
- SEATS qualification.
- First Aid / Mental Health First Aid.
- HSG47 Cat & Genny training.
- Temporary Works Supervisor experience.
