The Opportunity

NEOS Engineering are partnered with a long-established, independent energy specialist that has been operating for over 25 years and is at the forefront of low-carbon and flexible power generation. This business delivers and maintains a wide portfolio of generation technologies including Landfill Gas to Energy, CHP, embedded gas generation, flare systems, BESS, behind-the-meter power and renewable assets, both in the UK and overseas. As part of continued expansion, they are now seeking an experienced Generator Overhaul Engineer to take ownership of the maintenance, repair and availability of large reciprocating internal combustion generators across their operational fleet.

The Role

You will be responsible for the overhaul, maintenance and fault rectification of gas-fuelled generation assets ranging from 100kW up to 20MWe, with the largest individual engines currently 2.5MWe. This is a hands-on, field-based role suited to an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, autonomy and working on complex, large-scale generation equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead full overhauls of large reciprocating internal combustion generators
  • Replace major components including cylinder heads, piston & liner packs, turbochargers, oil pumps, intercoolers, exhaust and induction systems
  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance, fault-finding, diagnosis and rectification
  • Deliver planned maintenance and respond to breakdowns with minimal downtime
  • Manage parts identification and ordering, ensuring critical spares availability
  • Reduce reliance on external contractors through strong in-house capability
  • Maintain high standards of HSEQ compliance, reporting and auditing
  • Liaise with engineering and management teams on complex technical issues
  • Manage your own time, travel and site commitments, including overnight stays when required
  • Commit to continuous improvement of skills, systems and operational performance

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading overhauls of reciprocating generating assets in a field service environment
  • Strong exposure to MWM, CAT CG, MTU or similar large-scale gas engines
  • Confident across mechanical, electrical, thermal and control systems
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability
  • Experience working with 12v DC – 415v AC, three-phase systems
  • GasSafe accredited or willing to complete accreditation during probation
  • Computer literate with accurate documentation and reporting skills
  • Full UK manual driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship available)
