NEOS Engineering are currently recruiting for a Sub Agent to join an established engineering contractor delivering major bulk earthworks and formation works on the HS2 project in Aylesbury. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sub Agent / Section Engineer / Site Engineer with a strong background in civil engineering and earthworks to take responsibility for a major section of the project.

As Sub Agent, you'll take ownership of a defined section of the HS2 works, leading engineering activities and providing technical direction across bulk earthworks, formation and associated infrastructure. You'll work closely with the wider project team, including Commercial, Planning, Engineering and Construction, to ensure effective resource planning, programme delivery and risk management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, manage and mentor the engineering team, providing clear direction and technical guidance.
  • Oversee the delivery of bulk earthworks and formation works across your section of the project.
  • Develop and manage detailed mass-haul and seasonal work plans.
  • Support accurate forecasting, resource allocation and programme planning.
  • Lead constructability reviews and develop effective construction sequencing strategies.
  • Support temporary works planning, identifying risks and implementing appropriate mitigation.
  • Work closely with Commercial and Planning teams to monitor costs, productivity and programme performance.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with required health, safety and quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational issues to maintain project progress.
  • Provide technical guidance and development opportunities to junior engineers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and high performance.
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience within civil engineering, construction or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong experience in earthworks, ideally on large-scale infrastructure schemes.
  • Previous experience leading and developing engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing programme, resources and productivity.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across Engineering, Commercial, Planning and Construction teams.
  • Relevant engineering qualification, ideally a Civil Engineering degree.
  • Ideally working towards ICE professional accreditation.
  • A proactive and confident approach to project delivery.
