The company designs, builds, and maintains electrical and mechanical systems that drive safe, efficient, and sustainable production, integrating design, project delivery, and site support with a strong focus on innovation and digitalisation.
As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering control and automation systems across large-scale industrial material handling projects. You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle—from concept and detailed design to testing, validation, installation, and commissioning. This role includes PLC programming, SCADA development, hardware integration, and on-site commissioning of complex handling systems including conveyors, feeders, crushers, screens, and loadout systems.
Key Responsibilities- Specify, design, and document automation systems for quarrying and heavy industrial processes throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Design and develop PLC and SCADA software architectures from scratch, predominantly using Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC, and associated platforms.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including Functional Design Specifications, Software Design Specifications, I/O lists, and commissioning packs.
- Support compliance with company procedures, UK health and safety regulations, and relevant standards (BS7671, UKCA, CE, and machinery safety).
- Assist with electrical design risk assessments, control panel design, wiring diagrams, and component selection in line with company and industry standards.
- Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) with clients and stakeholders.
- Deliver on-site commissioning and operator training for new material handling plants.
- Degree or HND in Electrical, Electronic, or Industrial Control Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 languages, including Ladder Logic, Function Blocks, and Structured Text.
- Strong background in Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and HMI systems; experience with GE, Rockwell, or Mitsubishi platforms is an advantage.
- Familiarity with control hardware design principles, including hardware specification, BOM, procurement, CAD drawings, and testing.
- Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, such as Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, UA.
- Hands-on experience with testing, commissioning, and optimisation of control systems on live plant.
- Ability to work closely with customers, suppliers, and colleagues to deliver practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear communication style.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK and occasional overseas assignments.
- Experience with large-scale material handling processes in quarrying, aggregates, or other heavy industry.
- Awareness of Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity and its relevance to modern control systems.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards including ISO 13849 or IEC 61508.
- Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards it.
- Experience integrating OEE data capture and reporting into control architectures.
- Work on challenging and innovative industrial automation projects.
- Exposure to cutting-edge PLC, SCADA, and control technologies.
- Opportunities for career development and professional growth.
- Collaborative, supportive, and safety-focused working environment.
