Job Description

Generator Engineer – Bristol

Location: Bristol & Surrounding Areas
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

NEOS Engineering are recruiting on behalf of our client for a skilled Generator Engineer to join their team in Bristol. This is a hands-on, field-based role working on a variety of diesel generators, providing maintenance, repair, and commissioning services for critical power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair diesel generators of various sizes

  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and control system faults

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs

  • Commission and decommission generator systems on client sites

  • Perform load bank testing and system performance verification

  • Complete accurate service reports and maintenance documentation

  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety procedures

  • Provide professional technical advice to clients on-site

Requirements

  • Proven experience working on diesel generators, ideally in industrial, commercial, or critical power environments

  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills

  • Experience with control systems and engine management systems

  • Familiarity with major engine brands (Perkins, Cummins, MTU, Volvo) advantageous

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional approach

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Manufacturer-specific training or accreditation

  • Experience in load bank testing and commissioning

  • Electrical qualifications or NVQ/Apprenticeship in Engineering

  • Experience in standby power, data centre, or industrial sectors
