NEOS Engineering are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading UK engineering and plant solutions provider for an experienced Workshop Foreman (Generators) to be based at their depot in Grays, Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior generator engineer or workshop supervisor looking to step into a leadership role within a well-established, financially secure organisation operating across construction, infrastructure, and specialist engineering sectors.
The Role
As Workshop Foreman, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the generator workshop, ensuring all equipment is maintained, serviced, and prepared to the highest standards before deployment. You will lead from the front — providing technical expertise, mentoring engineers, and ensuring safe, efficient workshop operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate workshop engineers and fitters
- Oversee servicing, fault finding, and repair of diesel generators (20kVA–1250kVA+)
- Plan and prioritise workload to meet operational deadlines
- Ensure all equipment is prepared to a high standard prior to hire or site deployment
- Support diagnostics on electrical and mechanical faults
- Maintain compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures
- Liaise with parts departments and management to ensure efficient workflow
- Maintain accurate job records, service reports, and inspection documentation
- Assist with training and development of junior engineers
About You
We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge of diesel generator systems and previous experience in a senior or supervisory capacity. You should have:
- Proven experience working on diesel generators (hire fleet or industrial)
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Experience with engines such as Perkins, Cummins, Volvo, or similar
- Knowledge of control panels, AVR systems, and load testing
- Previous experience leading or mentoring engineers (desirable)
- A proactive, organised approach to workshop management
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards
