Base location: Perth, Glasgow or Havant (Hybrid: 2-3 per week onsite)
Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 a year depending on experience + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.
Working Pattern: Permanent Full time. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join the Operational Networking Team to help support and secure the UK wide data network which provides mission critical services to telecoms customers.
Vetting/Clearance Level: To support Critical National Infrastructure, you may be required to complete a Security Check (SC clearance).
Key Responsibilities
- Administer firewalls and security appliances across different vendors.
- Provide day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of the infrastructure, WAN, LAN and WLAN.
- Provide Tier-3 technical support to the Neos NOC and Customers supporting fault investigations.
- Collaborate with both security and network architects on cyber security and network design.
- Liaise with project management teams to carry out remote builds and deployment.
- Provide on-call standby support within a team rota & support out of hours planned changes or escalations when required.
Essential for the role
You will need to hold a professional level network security accreditation such as Cisco, Juniper or similar industry recognised certification. You will need the following skills for this role, although the level of ability for each will vary:
- A proven experience of firewall platforms involving the ability to install, maintain, and upgrade them, which includes planning and configuration.
- Hands-on experience on Cisco ASA, Firepower, Fortinet and Checkpoint configuration.
- Experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and Nexus hardware (routers/switches).
- Solid understanding of Layer 2 (Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree).
- Proven skills in Layer 3 (OSPF, BGP, subnetting, ACLs, VRFs).
Desirable:
- Exposure to Juniper platforms: QFX10k, QFX5k with VXLAN.
- SD-WAN knowledge, such as Aruba troubleshooting.
- Security certifications such as CompTIA.
You will be flexible, committed and a self-motivated team worker, with excellent organisational skills, including prioritising workloads. You will be expected to work on your own initiative but also work well as part of a small team. Good customer-facing skills.
