Salary: up to Β£30,000 – Β£40,000 a year depending on experience + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: 6 months FTC Full time with the option of hybrid working

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Network Engineer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain hands-on experience in the design, build, and delivery of critical network infrastructure projects.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers to deliver technical solutions across WAN, LAN, and security environments, playing an active role in both engineering execution and project delivery.

Vetting/Clearance Level: To support Critical National Infrastructure, you may be required to complete a Security Check (SC clearance).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and configure network infrastructure solutions as part of project delivery
  • Support the implementation of routers, switches, firewalls, and WAN technologies across multi-vendor environments
  • Assist with remote builds, staging, and deployment of customer solutions
  • Work closely with project managers to deliver projects on time, ensuring technical requirements are met
  • Perform testing, validation, and documentation of deployed solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during project implementation
  • Participate in change activities, including out-of-hours work where required
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and customers to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Produce and maintain build guides and handover documentation

What do I need?

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in networking or IT infrastructure, with a keen interest in hands-on engineering and project delivery. A CCNA qualification or equivalent (e.g. Juniper or similar certification) is highly desirable.

You will need the following skills:

  • Hands-on or lab-based experience with routing and switching technologies
  • Familiarity with Cisco IOS / IOS-XE and enterprise networking hardware
  • Good understanding of Layer 2 technologies (Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree)
  • Good understanding of Layer 3 technologies (OSPF, BGP, subnetting, ACLs, VRFs)
  • Exposure to firewalls and security appliances (configuration, upgrades, policies)
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret technical designs and translate them into build/configuration tasks
  • Good communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience or exposure to multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba)
  • Knowledge of SD-WAN technologies or modern network architectures
  • Exposure to data centre networking (VXLAN, EVPN)
  • Understanding of network security principles
  • Awareness of project delivery frameworks (Agile, PRINCE2)
