Senior National Hire Desk Manager
Weston Super Mare
Neos Engineering are partnered with a leading national plant hire business that supports large-scale construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and strategic ambition, they are now seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior National Hire Desks Manager to join their Senior Leadership Team.
The Role
As Senior National Hire Desks Manager, you will take ownership of the national hire desk function—leading multiple teams, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring a high level of service delivery to customers across the country. You will be a key strategic player in driving process improvements, fostering a high-performance culture, and influencing wider business decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring a team of hire desk controllers across multiple depots
- Collaborating closely with the Senior Leadership Team on company strategy and operations
- Overseeing the full hire desk function—managing orders, allocation, dispatch, contracts, and returns
- Driving efficiency, accuracy, and excellence in service and operations
- Ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and industry standards
- Managing customer relationships and resolving queries and complaints effectively
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on key performance metrics
- Coordinating with fleet, maintenance, and logistics teams to ensure availability and performance of plant equipment
The Candidate
You’ll be an experienced and commercially minded hire desk professional with strong leadership credentials and in-depth knowledge of the plant hire or construction industry. You must be confident managing change, driving innovation, and leading large, cross-functional teams in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
Key skills and experience required:
- Proven experience in a senior leadership or management role within hire desk operations
- A track record of delivering operational excellence and leading business transformation
- Strong plant hire, construction, or equipment hire background
- Excellent organisational, communication, and negotiation skills
- Commercial awareness and the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Good working knowledge of health and safety in the construction/hire environment
- IT literate, ideally with experience in hire software (e.g. Syrinx or similar)
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
- Management or industry-related certification (construction, plant hire, etc.)
