CHP & Generator Engineer

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

The Opportunity

We are working with an established specialist in critical power, standby power and energy systems, with over 40 years' experience supplying, installing and maintaining generators, UPS systems, CHP and associated power infrastructure across the UK.

Due to continued growth, they are looking for experienced CHP & Generator Maintenance Engineers to join their technical team and cover the London and Greater London region.

This is a field-based position combining planned maintenance, servicing, fault finding, remedial works and reactive breakdown response across a range of generators or CHP systems.

The role would suit an experienced Generator Engineers, CHP Engineers, Service Engineers or Electrical/Mechanical Engineers with a strong practical background.

The Role

You will primarily cover London and the surrounding areas, carrying out scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, remedial works and reactive breakdown repairs.

You will work on a range of generators or CHP systems, providing customers with reliable technical support and ensuring equipment remains operational and compliant.

The role involves working independently on customer sites while being supported by the wider technical, Service and Engineering teams.

There will also be an out-of-hours callout rota, so flexibility is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance on generators or CHP systems.
• Attend reactive breakdowns and provide first-response technical support.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and control-system faults.
• Carry out remedial works and repairs.
• Work on generator systems ranging from 10kVA to 2MVA.
• Work on CHP systems in the region of 30kW–500kW.
• Complete detailed service and site reports.
• Identify further remedial works and opportunities for improvement.
• Carry out risk assessments and work in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
• Maintain regular communication with the Service team.
• Provide technical support to colleagues and customers.
• Build strong customer relationships and act as a professional representative of the business.
• Participate in the out-of-hours callout rota.
• Travel outside the London region where required.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for experienced engineers from the generator, CHP, critical power, power generation or associated engineering sectors.

You do not necessarily need to have experience of both generators and CHP.

Candidates with a strong background in either discipline will be considered where they have the underlying mechanical/electrical engineering ability and are willing to develop their knowledge across the wider product range.

• Minimum 3 years' relevant engineering experience in generator, CHP, power generation or a similar technical environment.
• Strong practical engineering knowledge.
• Strong electrical engineering knowledge of LV power generation and distribution systems.
• Experience fault finding and diagnosing complex mechanical/electrical equipment.
• Practical knowledge of high-level control systems such as ComAp / Deep Sea Electronics (DSE) would be highly advantageous.
• Experience using laptop-based engine analysis or control software.
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable with high-mileage driving and working away from home when required.
• Ability to think on your feet and work effectively in a fast-moving environment.
• Full UK driving licence.

• Standby generators

CHP Experience

Experience with:

• CHP / Combined Heat & Power
• LTHW systems
• Pumps and inverter drives
• Boiler systems
• BMS controls
• ComAp or similar engine control systems
• Flue gas analysers
• CHP servicing and breakdown response

Qualifications – Desirable

• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification
• 18th Edition
• CSCS card
• MWM training
• Experience with BMS / building services
• Knowledge of Modbus, Profibus or BACnet
• Own electrical and mechanical tool kit
