We are currently looking to recruit a Technical Services Microbiologist to join our award-winning business. This role is based on-site in Heywood.

The Technical Services Microbiologist will form an integral part of the Technical Services team, responsible for the testing of incoming raw materials and assisting with investigations related to culture media. General laboratory tasks such as calibrations and maintaining stock solutions/media will form part of the day to day tasks.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Testing of incoming raw materials according to relevant procedures, to ensure correct specifications of products are met.
  • Testing of customer complaints investigations of culture media, ensuring this is performed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in investigations into non-conforming culture media products within the QC department testing.
  • Calibration of equipment.
  • Write reports and documentation of all laboratory work/investigations performed.
  • General support of operational functions.
  • Maintain stock solutions and media for the Technical Services Team.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology and Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Previous lab work experience is desirable.
  • Problem Solving - able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyse information effectively; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem solving situations.
  • Planning/Organizing - able to prioritise and plan work activities; uses time efficiently.
  • Organizational Support - able to follow policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time.
  • Quality - able to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Written Communication - able to write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar; present numerical data effectively; interpret written information.
  • Verbal Communication - be able to confidently present information/findings to the immediate team and wider functions.
  • Computer Skills: have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project. Also desirable is a proficiency of internal systems e.g., ACE, Sage, CRM etc.
  • Ethics - able to work with integrity and ethically; uphold organizational values; maintain confidentiality.
  • Safety and Security - able to observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
