The Head of Clinical Delivery leads the day-to-day clinical service across the Urgent Care Coordination Hub (UCCH), 111 Clinical Assessment Service (111 CAS), care navigation, out-of-hours GP appointments and home visiting. They manage the clinical workforce and are accountable for the quality of care and clinical standards across these services.
The postholder is part of a service leadership triumvirate with the IUCS Medical Lead and Operational Service Manager. They lead clinical delivery and manage non-medical clinical staff. The Medical Lead provides medical leadership and professional oversight, and line manages the GP workforce. The Operational Service Manager manages non-clinical call handlers and leads operational arrangements, including rotas, sickness and annual leave. The three leads work together on issues that affect clinical and operational delivery.
Main duties of the job
The role combines autonomous ACP practice with departmental leadership. As a guide, around 60% of working time will be clinical and 40% managerial, adjusted by agreement where service needs require. Clinical work will focus mainly on 111 clinical assessment and telephone consultations, with occasional face-to-face appointments or home visits where service needs require, and within the postholders competence.
The postholder will work with the IUCS Clinical Governance Lead and Governance Team on incidents, complaints and patient feedback, and make sure agreed local actions are completed. They will contribute to senior and service-level meetings, lead regular clinical team meetings and deputise for the Associate Director of Nursing and Quality when requested.
