Nelson Permanent Placements are seeking an experienced Automation Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Birmingham. This role offers the opportunity to design and deliver electrical control and automation systems across a range of industrial sectors, supporting projects from concept and design through to installation and commissioning.

To be considered for this role as an Automation Electrical Design Engineer:

  • An experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a background in automation and control systems
  • Proficient in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software
  • Knowledgeable in PLC–based control systems, HMIs, SCADA and motor control applications
  • A detail–oriented engineer with strong problem–solving and communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with clients to understand project requirements and produce costed technical proposals and design specifications
  • Designing electrical control systems, including Control & LV Switchgear Panels and cabling installations
  • Producing detailed electrical drawings, schematics, calculations and documentation using EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Reviewing electrical design submissions to ensure technical compliance and engineering standards are met
  • Delivering projects in line with agreed budgets, schedules and client specifications
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards, regulations and legal requirements
  • Providing technical support throughout project delivery, installation and commissioning phases
  • Working collaboratively within a multi–disciplinary engineering team to deliver automation solutions

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in electrical design for industrial automation and control systems
  • Strong working knowledge of EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent CAD software
  • Experience with PLC systems such as Siemens and/or Allen Bradley
  • Understanding of HMI, SCADA and motor control systems
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical ability with a methodical approach to problem solving
