Nelson Permanent Placements are currently recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and project delivery business for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to support a key client with a large amount of project work already in place. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established delivery team and take ownership of a portfolio of projects, based in Northamptonshire. The successful candidate will provide additional project management capacity through to the end of 2026, with the potential for the position to develop further as the company’s project pipeline continues to grow.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of assigned projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover. You will work closely with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and client stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to programme. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced Mechanically biased Project Manager who is comfortable working within Food & Beverage sites delivering operational engineering services.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of allocated projects from mobilisation through delivery, completion and handover.
- Develop, manage and maintain project programmes, labour plans and delivery priorities.
- Coordinate directly employed labour, subcontractors, suppliers and materials.
- Provide visible and effective leadership across project sites.
- Manage project costs and maintain strong commercial awareness throughout delivery.
- Monitor and manage variations, changes to scope and additional works.
- Ensure all project documentation is maintained accurately and to the required standard.
- Manage RAMS, permits, progress reports and project handover documentation.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, site teams and key stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, identifying and resolving issues where required.
- Support the wider projects team during a busy period of secured project delivery.
- Assist with estimating, quoting, planning and mobilisation of future project opportunities.
- Contribute to the continued development of the company’s project delivery capability.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in mechanical engineering & industrial projects. You will be confident managing multiple priorities, coordinating site-based teams and subcontractors, and communicating effectively with both clients and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience working as a Project Manager within an engineering, construction, industrial or similar environment.
- Strong project planning and coordination skills.
- Experience managing subcontractors, labour, suppliers and materials.
- Good commercial awareness, including experience managing variations and changes.
- A strong understanding of project documentation, RAMS, permits and handover processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to lead projects from mobilisation through to successful completion.
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
- The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project team.
