Our Organisation

This role is advertised by East Lancashire Learning Group Professional Services. Part of East Lancashire Learning Group, ELLG Professional Services provides expert business support services to the wider College Group.

East Lancashire Learning Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges - Nelson & Colne College, Accrington & Rossendale College and Lancashire Adult Learning. The College Group is the only Further Education college in Lancashire to be graded as Outstanding' under the new Ofsted inspection framework.

Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels.

The Exciting Role

A new opportunity has become available for a Casual Hairdressing Coach to support our remaining Hairdressing apprentices through to successful completion of their programmes.

You will join East Lancashire Apprenticeships and work closely with apprentices, employers and our FE Hairdressing teaching team. Teaching will continue to be delivered by the FE team; this role will focus on the individual coaching, progress reviews and workplace assessment that each apprentice needs to remain on track and achieve on time.

The role will be based primarily at Accrington and Rossendale College, with travel to apprentices' workplaces across Lancashire when coaching, review or assessment activity is required.

This opportunity would suit an experienced hairdressing practitioner and qualified assessor who enjoys helping apprentices build confidence, demonstrate occupational competence and progress towards gateway and end-point assessment.

The post will initially provide up to 12 hours per week. As this is a closing caseload with no planned new starts, hours will be offered according to learner need and are expected to reduce as apprentices complete.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide individual coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback to a caseload of 13 Hairdressing apprentices.
  • Plan and carry out high-quality progress reviews with apprentices and employers, agreeing clear targets and timely actions.
  • Undertake workplace visits to coach apprentices, gather evidence and assess practical occupational competence.
  • Use OneFile to maintain accurate and timely records of progress, assessment, feedback, reviews, targets and off-the-job training.
  • Monitor each apprentice against their planned end date, identify gaps or risks and put effective interventions in place.
  • Work closely with employers, workplace mentors, the FE teaching team and other College colleagues to coordinate support.
  • Prepare apprentices for gateway and end-point assessment, ensuring the required knowledge, skills, behaviours and evidence are complete.
  • Participate in standardisation and internal quality assurance activity and work in line with safeguarding, health and safety, College and ESFA requirements.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A Level 3 Hairdressing qualification, or equivalent relevant occupational qualification.
  • A recognised assessor qualification such as A1, CAVA or equivalent.
  • Recent and relevant occupational experience within the hairdressing industry.
  • Experience of assessing practical hairdressing skills and occupational competence.
  • Strong coaching, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to motivate apprentices and set meaningful targets.
  • An organised and accurate approach to caseload management, workplace visits, assessment and electronic record-keeping.
  • Current knowledge of the relevant Hairdressing apprenticeship standard, gateway and end-point assessment requirements.
  • The ability and willingness to travel to apprentices' workplaces when required. Experience of OneFile and apprenticeship delivery would be an advantage.

What We Offer in Return:

  • Access to a workplace pension scheme - with generous employer contributions
  • Enhanced occupational sick pay scheme and access to family friendly policies and benefits
  • A range of health and wellbeing benefits and support
  • Staff recognition scheme, including long service awards
  • Fantastic family friendly policies
  • Free on-site parking on all College sites
