Together, Let's Be Extraordinary

Our Organisation

Part of East Lancashire Learning Group, Nelson and Colne College has a national reputation for educational success and is seen within the Further Education sector as a beacon of excellence for teaching and learning. We offer an outstanding range of A Levels, vocational courses, Apprenticeships and Higher Education provision and generations of families have benefited from an exceptional education at Nelson and Colne College.

The Exciting Role

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for both an A Level Sociology and Politics teacher to join our high performing A Level team at ELLG-an Outstanding college for two decades with an exceptional track record of results in the subject. Both roles are part time roles with an opportunity to come together as 1FTE for the right candidate.

We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable teachers of both Sociology and Politics to deliver outstanding teaching and learning within a supportive, collaborative, and forward thinking department. You will be joining a long standing team that works closely together for the benefit of our learners, with a strong culture of sharing best practice and providing high levels of professional support.

If you are committed to helping learners achieve extraordinary outcomes and want to be part of a team that consistently delivers excellence, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Nelson but may be required to travel across sites.

This post could suit an experienced practitioner looking for their next challenge, a newly qualified teacher looking to make their mark within an Outstanding organisation, or a talented aspiring trainee teacher looking for support with their teaching qualification.

If you are applying as a trainee teacher, the College's Trainee Teacher programme will include funding for your teaching qualification, as well as mentoring support and coaching from our experienced team. You can find out more about what it is like to Teach in FE by visiting https://www.teach-in-further-education.campaign.gov.uk/ and there is information about how to become a further education teacher at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/teach-in-further-education#train-on-the-job. Alternatively, please call a member of our HR team if you would like to find out more.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Plan, deliver and assess high quality teaching and learning across A Level Sociology (an ability to teach a second subject would also be advantageous in Politics for possible full time)
  • Provide effective academic and pastoral support to learners, supporting them throughout their educational journey.
  • Ensure all learners make exceptional progress from their individual starting points through the use of effective assessment and targeted intervention.
  • Develop learners' wider knowledge, skills and behaviours to support their progression to higher education or employment.
  • Enrich learners' cultural capital by contributing to a broad range of extra curricular activities, including educational visits, guest speakers and other enrichment opportunities.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A passionate, knowledgeable and committed Sociology specialist with the ability to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and support.
  • Experience of delivering A Level programmes, particularly within Sociology

What We Offer in Return:

  • Eligibility to join the Teachers' Pension Scheme
  • Generous annual leave allowance including a two-week closure over the Christmas period
  • Enhanced occupational sick pay scheme and access to family friendly policies and benefits
  • A range of health and wellbeing benefits and support
  • Staff recognition scheme, including long service awards
  • Free on-site parking on all College sites
