Job Vacancy: Maintenance/Handyperson

Location: Meyer House Care Home, 28 Meyer Road, Erith, DA8 3SJ

Contracted hours: 40 hours (to include – every other weekend free, as applicable), Work flexibility in accordance with your availability and the service requirements

(Hourly) rate of pay: Starting at £14.00 (to be discussed at interview, dependent on qualifications / experience)

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our friendly Care Home team and ensure our environment remains safe, comfortable and well‑maintained for our residents, visitors and staff.

About the Role

As our Maintenance/Handyperson, you will play a key part in the smooth running of the Home by delivering high‑quality maintenance services. You'll carry out a range of planned and reactive tasks, ensuring all areas are safe, compliant, and in good working order. This is a varied role that involves everything from small repairs to routine checks, supporting fire safety compliance, managing equipment, and maintaining the grounds.

The Maintenance/Handyperson responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Carry out routine repairs, maintenance tasks and regular safety checks.
  • Prioritise and respond to both planned and reactive maintenance issues.
  • Maintain systems, equipment, fixtures and fittings to a high standard.
  • Ensure residents' privacy, dignity and safety at all times.
  • Record all maintenance work, inspections and testing accurately.
  • Complete weekly fire alarm tests, support fire drills and maintain safety logs.
  • Undertake water temperature checks and other statutory compliance tasks.
  • Keep outdoor areas tidy, including grass cutting, pruning and clearing debris.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are safely maintained and stored.
  • Support the Home Manager with deliveries, waste management and occasional driving duties.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs if required.
  • Assist in ensuring the Home meets Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
