The Head of Governor and Membership Office will work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors, the Council of Governors, and senior staff by developing mutual respect and building constructive and trusting relationships - and at times using refined negotiation and interpersonal skills, particularly in respect of any contentious and/or sensitive information being discussed. In conjunction with the Chair, the post holder will provide support to the lead and deputy lead governors in discharging their responsibilities, ensuring good working relationships are developed and maintained.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Serving as an ambassador for the Trust, positively representing the organisation as an authoritative key contact and point for action for national/local organisations and individuals.
  • Providing advice and pastoral support to members of the Council of Governors to allow them to best fulfil their role.
  • Ensuring that meetings of the Council of Governors and committees run in accordance with the regulatory framework.
  • Providing a comprehensive management service for the Trust's membership, including the development of plans and strategies for membership recruitment and engagement.

Starting with NELFT, new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436).

Qualifications required include:

  • Educated to Master's Degree level or other post-graduate qualification, or equivalent by virtue of experience.

Essential experience includes:

  • Extensive experience of communicating with and persuading a variety of stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience of building confidence and positive relationships, and engaging and negotiating with stakeholders.

Essential skills include:

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to be clear and persuasive in speech and in writing.
  • Able to produce high quality and coherent reports and materials in a range of media.
  • Able to present complex, sensitive, and/or contentious information to a variety of groups.
