We are growing and looking for a hands-on 2ND SHIFT OPERATIONS MANAGER to lead crate repair operations at our Fairburn, Georgia VMI location. If you enjoy keeping things organized, safe, and efficient while others are clocking out, this role is for you.
This position is based at our Fairburn, Georgia VMI site and reports to the Site Manager. You will lead the 2nd shift while keeping alignment with other shifts and support teams to make sure packaging assets are ready when customers need them.
- Scheduled shift: 2nd shift, 3:00 PM - 1:30 AM, Monday - Thursday
- Lead crate repair and related packaging asset operations across multiple shifts
- Act as the key operations leader for 2nd shift, with strong visibility on the floor
What you will do
You will own safe, efficient crate repair operations for 2nd shift and help keep performance consistent across all shifts. Most of your time will be spent in the operation, working with supervisors and teams, prioritizing work, and making sure repaired crates meet safety, quality, and customer requirements. You will also stay closely connected with VMI, warehouse, logistics, quality, maintenance, and customer-facing teams.
- Lead daily crate repair operations across multiple shifts at the Fairburn VMI site
- Prioritize work based on customer demand, staffing, material availability, and turnaround needs
- Monitor productivity, labor utilization, downtime, inventory accuracy, and operating costs
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, team leads, and hourly employees, including staffing and training
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA requirements
- Use data, lean practices, and root-cause analysis to improve performance, quality, and service
What you bring
You're a practical operations leader who is comfortable making decisions in a busy warehouse and repair environment. You balance safety, quality, labor, and customer service, and you prefer clear, data-based decisions over guesswork. You communicate directly, support your teams, and keep operations stable even when demand changes.
- Bachelor’s degree in operations management, logistics, business, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- 5 years of experience in warehouse, manufacturing, repair, logistics, or a similar operational environment
- 2 years of experience managing supervisors or hourly employees, ideally in a multi-shift or 24/7 operation
- Strong background in safety, quality, productivity, labor management, and customer service
- Proficiency with ERP or WMS systems, timekeeping tools, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required in a warehouse and crate repair environment
What will help you succeed
You don't need to check every box, but some extra experience will make your job smoother. If you've dealt with VMI, industrial packaging, or crate and pallet repair, you'll recognize the challenges quickly. If you're used to continuous improvement and keeping communication strong between shifts, you'll be off to a good start.
- Experience in VMI, industrial packaging, wood crate, pallet, or asset-repair operations
- Experience using 5S, lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methods
- Familiarity with OSHA compliance, incident investigation, and safety leadership
- Background in labor planning, budgeting, and cost control
- Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish
- Comfort working around noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures
