Job Title: SolarWinds Developer (L3 / SME)

Experience: 8+ Years
Shift: UK Working Hours (Night Shift – India)
Location: India (Remote / Hybrid / Onsite – as applicable)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SolarWinds Developer / SME to design, customize, and support enterprise-scale monitoring solutions using the SolarWinds Orion Platform . The role involves advanced customization, automation, integration, and L3-level troubleshooting , while providing support aligned to UK business hours .

The engineer will work closely with NOC, Network, Security, and Application teams to ensure proactive monitoring, high availability, and SLA adherence.

Key Responsibilities

SolarWinds Development & Customization

  • Design, develop, and maintain SolarWinds solutions using the Orion Platform .

  • Develop and customize:

    • Custom Pollers

    • Alerts and Alert Actions

    • Dashboards, Widgets, and Views

    • Reports (SWQL-based)

  • Create advanced SWQL queries for custom reporting and performance analytics.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Implement and support monitoring for:

    • Network devices (Routers, Switches, Firewalls)

    • Servers (Windows/Linux)

    • Applications, databases, and cloud workloads

  • Tune thresholds, suppress noise, and implement alert correlation to reduce false positives.

  • Ensure proactive detection of performance degradation and service-impacting events.

Integration & Automation

  • Integrate SolarWinds with:

    • ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira)

    • SIEM platforms

    • Email, ticketing, and webhook-based notification systems

  • Automate routine monitoring tasks using:

    • PowerShell

    • Python

    • REST APIs

  • Support CI/CD-driven monitoring enhancements where applicable.

L3 Support & Incident Management

  • Provide L3-level escalation support for SolarWinds-related issues.

  • Perform root cause analysis for monitoring failures, data gaps, polling issues, and performance anomalies.

  • Support platform upgrades, hotfixes, and patching activities.

  • Maintain high availability, backups, and disaster recovery for SolarWinds environments.

Platform Administration & Optimization

  • Manage SolarWinds components including:

    • NPM, SAM, NTA, DPA, VMAN, IPAM, UDT (as applicable)

  • Optimize polling engines, databases, and platform performance.

  • Troubleshoot SQL Server backend issues related to SolarWinds databases.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Create and maintain:

    • Design documents

    • SOPs and runbooks

    • Known error databases and troubleshooting guides

  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to L1/L2 monitoring teams.

Mandatory Technical Skills

SolarWinds Expertise

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

    • SolarWinds Orion Platform

    • NPM, SAM, NTA, IPAM, DPA (any combination)

  • Expertise in:

    • Custom Pollers

    • SWQL

    • Advanced Alerts & Dashboards

    • Performance tuning and capacity planning

Scripting & Automation

  • Proficiency in PowerShell and/or Python

  • Experience working with SolarWinds REST APIs

Infrastructure & Networking

  • Strong understanding of:

    • TCP/IP, SNMP, WMI

    • Network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.)

    • Windows & Linux systems

Database & OS

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (SolarWinds backend)

  • Working knowledge of Windows Server administration

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills

  • Experience supporting UK or European customers

  • Exposure to:

    • Cloud monitoring (AWS, Azure, GCP)

    • ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change)

    • SIEM and log management tools

  • SolarWinds certifications (SCP, SAM, NPM) – Added Advantage

Soft Skills & Behavioral Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently during night shifts

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Customer-focused approach with ownership mindset

  • Ability to handle high-pressure production incidents

Education

  • Bachelor\’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Working Conditions

  • UK Working Hours (Night Shift – India)

  • On-call support may be required during critical incidents or maintenance windows
