Supporting the delivery of Non-Executive Director (NED), Chair and board-level appointments across the UK social housing sector, while actively driving business development and revenue growth.

This role balances non-executive search delivery, board-level candidate engagement and client acquisition, with a clear expectation to contribute directly to revenue through winning and developing client relationships.

As a consultant you will build a strong understanding of board composition, governance, sector challenges and the non-executive talent landscape. You will develop the credibility and commercial awareness required to engage with experienced Chairs, Non-Executive Directors, executive leaders and senior sector stakeholders, delivering a high-quality, consultative search experience for both clients and candidates.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate as a 360 Consultant, owning the full non-executive search lifecycle, from business development and winning retained assignments through to board-level talent identification, appointment and completion.
  • Build and manage a personal pipeline of prospective clients, identifying opportunities for NED and Chair appointments, board succession planning and governance capability development.
  • Develop trusted relationships with Chairs, Non-Executive Directors, Chief Executives, Company Secretaries and board members to generate new business, referrals and repeat assignments.
  • Conduct targeted market mapping across the UK social housing sector and relevant external markets to identify high-calibre NEDs and Chairs with the strategic, commercial and governance experience required for effective boards.
  • Build and maintain a network of prospective NEDs and Chairs, understanding their board experience, areas of expertise, independence, motivations, existing commitments and future non-executive ambitions.
  • Develop high-quality longlists and targeted shortlists, assessing candidates against board skills matrices, governance requirements, strategic priorities, board composition and organisational values.
  • Manage client and candidate relationships throughout the appointment process, providing a consultative service and ensuring a professional, confidential and high-quality experience for all stakeholders.
  • Develop specialist knowledge of social housing governance, regulatory requirements, board effectiveness, risk oversight and sector challenges, translating market intelligence into valuable insight for clients and candidates.
  • Take accountability for individual revenue targets, business development activity and assignment delivery, maintaining high standards of integrity, discretion and professionalism when managing sensitive board-level appointments.
