UK (hybrid, with periodic in-person board meetings) Board-level appointment Competitive non-executive fee Initial three-year term, renewable
The opportunity
A UK organisation is seeking a Non-Executive Director to strengthen its board's oversight of technology, cyber security and digital risk. As technology moves ever closer to the centre of strategy - and as cyber and AI-related risks become board-level concerns rather than technical ones - the board is looking to add a director who can bring informed, independent judgement to these areas.
This is a governance appointment, not an operational one. The role is to provide oversight and constructive challenge - helping the board understand, question and govern the organisation's technology strategy and risk posture - rather than to run or lead the technology function itself. The successful candidate will translate genuine technology credibility into effective board-level judgement, and contribute fully as a member of the board.
What we're looking for
- Senior technology leadership experience (Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Information Security Officer or equivalent)
- The ability to operate at board level - providing oversight and challenge, not execution - and to communicate technical matters in terms the whole board can engage with
- A credible, current understanding of cyber-security governance, digital risk and the governance implications of AI and data
- The independence and judgement to challenge management constructively and think beyond any single specialism as a full board member
- Existing non-executive experience is welcome, but the board will also consider first-time NEDs of the right calibre with a genuine appetite for governance
- Integrity, balance and the presence to contribute effectively in the boardroom
