Job Description
Working within the Health division of NECSWS your duties will feature a mix of maintaining existing applications, regular and bespoke report generation, dashboard creation, documenting code bases, cleansing datasets, identifying data quality issues in large databases, supporting the analytical requirements of clinical steering committees and looking for unique opportunities to deploy machine learning/NLP techniques to health data. The focus of this work will be on data that is held in clinical registries relating to various performance outcomes for patients who have undergone surgery. This role involves working closely with the data science and analytics team to develop new registries and health data reporting procedures to support the work of the NHS and private UK healthcare providers. This is a full-time remote role that may require occasional trips to NECSWS offices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Regularly scheduled and bespoke report generation, including the plotting of charts and statistical analysis of large data sets.
- Taking charge of data cleansing, quality assurance and supporting integration.
- Maintaining and improving existing analytical code bases.
- Writing queries to interrogate and explore existing databases, as well as answer bespoke requests from business consultants and customers.
- Contributing ideas to improve productivity and delivery.
- Liaising with members of the data quality, development, business analyst and data analyst/scientist teams to deliver collaborative outputs
- Building a clinical knowledge base through meeting regularly with clinical steering committees
- Working closely with clinicians to support their reporting and analytical needs
- Documenting project work and establishing logs of all changes made to our code.
- Upskilling and learning new concepts in health data analysis/management.
Qualifications
Mandatory qualifications and experience:
Please note, role can be remote or Hybrid, subject to location.
- Bachelor\’s or Master\’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
- Previous experience in data science or a related field
- Proficiency with R (R Studio) and relevant packages for the purposes of data manipulation/cleaning, report generation, visualisation of data, statistical analysis and modelling
- Proficiency with SQL (Azure) for data manipulation, extract creation and aggregation of data from disparate sources
- Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals including: version control, functional programming, debugging, testing, performance optimisation
- Proven experience cleansing, processing and managing large data sets
- Proven experience responding creatively to analytical briefs
- Experience with data warehouses and open database connectivity
- Statistical expertise (including survival analysis and predictive modelling)
- The ability to deliver under pressure and without regular supervision
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work to deadlines
- Self-motivation and a flexible approach to work
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Postgraduate degree or professional IT certificate
- Advanced Excel skills, including knowledge of VBA
- Experience working with health data including clinical data registries
- Experience working with ‘unclean’ data and free text
- Experience refactoring analytical codebases
- An interest in the application of machine learning, NLP and AI to solve problems related to health data and patient safety
Training and Career Progression:
We will develop your specific knowledge of health registry data management, report generation and your wider skillset through one-to-one shadowing, practical group training sessions and through online courses on various statistics and the application of relevant coding languages. The potential for career development is fantastic, as we always aim to promote from within our own ranks. There may also be opportunities to move across to different parts of the NEC business where transferable skills permit this.
