This multinational FTSE100 giant holds a key position in several distinct industrial markets. With operations in every continent, it delivers essential resources and high-value commodities to customers all over the world.

Following a strategic restructure, the need has arisen for a Senior Tax Manager to join a sub-team of 12 that serves one of the Group's largest and most prestigious divisions. This team works independently with a full complement of tax experts across all specialisms. The team is based in the UK (London), Africa, Americas and Asia.

In this role, you will lead two experienced Managers and work closely with commercial leadership, finance and Head of Tax on a daily basis. You will also work closely with the tax authorities and external advisers to manage the tax affairs of several key divisions with operations in the UK, Europe and Middle East.

Leadership & Strategic Partnering
  • Lead two Tax Managers with responsibility for professional growth and progression.
  • Support and help develop tax strategy to ensure that tax objectives are understood and able to be delivered in your key territories, UK, Ireland, Belgium and UAE.
  • Support the effective implementation of the Tax Governance Framework, enabling the identification and management of tax risks and the development of solutions.
  • Lead your team to deploy global and local tax projects and initiatives that responsibly add to or protect shareholder value.
  • Support the response to external developments in areas of tax policy.
  • Proactively support and partner with business across Group entities primarily in the UK and Europe and within the wider Group Tax function.
  • Work with a network of local tax advisors in various countries and internal Group Tax network to support Group activities.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of relationships with key personnel within the business and ensure they understand the strategy, tax risk framework and vision of Group tax.
  • Understand and help the business to understand the value proposition, objectives, initiatives, delivery and resource requirements of Group Tax.
  • Embed Group Tax as a valued partner in the local business, positioning Group Tax to have a forward looking posture through presence in relevant committees and other forums that it uses to influence and shape decision making in the local business.
  • Manage the delivery of the provision of tax advice on major transactions, including acquisitions and disposals.
  • Support the development and enhance relationships with tax authorities, with a view to establishing ways of working that are consistent with the ethos of Co-operative Compliance.
Compliance / Governance / Risk / Policy
  • To support tax leadership in the implementation of the tax strategy and the management of the Group’s tax affairs for primarily all UK and European entities.
  • Manage direct and indirect tax compliance and reporting process to ensure compliance obligations are met, working together with external advisors, if required and stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Provide oversight in respect of the management of all tax audits, disputes and tax litigation within the region.
  • Help to liaise with outside advisors to ensure proper and efficient tax planning, business partnering and solutions.
  • Support the review and updating of tax systems, procedures and policies.
  • Provision of advice on day to day tax matters in the relevant country/region.
  • Assist with adherence to transfer pricing policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with local transfer pricing regulations.
  • Evaluate, assess and manage the in-country tax risk in line with Group Policy.
  • Support the analysis of changes to regimes as the result of significant multilateral policy changes on a Global basis and advice on the implication for the Group.
  • Monitor and communicate legislative changes and practice to the wider tax team and business as appropriate.
About you:
  • Proven UK Corporate Tax background.
  • International tax experience an advantage, ideally Europe.
  • Big 4 training or Top 10 firm essential.
  • Minimum of ten years corporate and or international tax experience.
  • Commercial experience preferred but not essential.
  • Able to discuss tax technical matters in plain language.
