We are currently looking for 2 Drainage Asset Technicians to join our team. The successful candidates will be responsible for contributing to fulfilling the Council’s requirements under the Flood and Water Management Act and Flood Risk Regulations, and to carry out asset inspections and related work in accordance with the relevant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out drainage asset inspections and mapping drainage infrastructure where required in a systematic manner.
  • Assist in the collection of data and implementation of mapping for areas susceptible to surface water and watercourse flooding with the use of GIS software.
  • Update and manage the authority’s Section 21 drainage asset database and undertake associated GIS/computer aided drainage work.
  • Provide information from the computerised inspection system for Highway Assets and the Street Works Management System.
  • Identify and quantify asset conditions using hand-held Data Capture Device, RTK GPS and download collated information into the computerised Highway Maintenance Management system.
  • Investigate drainage problems and assist the wider team with site surveys.
  • Investigate and deal with third party claims, public complaints and queries as the need arises.
  • Meet and liaise with the insurance section as part of the claim procedure process, with support as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in Drainage Systems and maintenance including dealing with flooding.
  • Experience in undertaking survey work, visual asset inspections of drainage and flood risk management infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Flood and Water Management Act, Land Drainage Act and Highways Act.
  • An understanding of the Code of Practice for Highway Maintenance Management in relation to drainage.
  • Undertaking GIS based assessments, data management and handling.
  • Ideally it is desirable that you have ONC – Civil Engineering or related qualification.
