Community Counsellor
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and innovative qualified Counsellor to work with children and young people (CYP) up to age 25 who may be at risk of disengaging from education, work or training.
Location of post:
Various schools and community-based locations across the authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide confidential counselling to individuals and groups of CYP, working systemically with schools, parents and other agencies.
- Deliver group work, run workshops, and provide training when required.
- Maintain a daily routine that includes one-on-one counselling sessions, outreach to young people and parents, professional conversations with school staff, and liaison with external organisations.
- Collaborate with the Inclusion Service and participate in multi-disciplinary consultations with schools.
- Enhance the skills of school-based staff through training and consultation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Diploma in Counselling and accredited/registered with the BACP, UKCP or equivalent.
- Experience working with children and young people.
- Understanding of the education system and barriers leading to disengagement.
- Experience liaising with other agencies.
- Sound knowledge of referral systems for health and education within Neath Port Talbot and neighbouring authorities.
- Experience of lone working in community settings.
- Knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures.

Pay Range
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council provided pay range: £8,974.00 – £20,682.00 (actual pay based on skills and experience).
