Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces. We are currently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our General Environmental Health Team within the Planning and Public Protection Service, part of the Environment & Regeneration Directorate. This is a senior professional role that plays a key part in ensuring the effective delivery of a wide range of General Environmental Health functions. You will provide expert technical advice, professional leadership and operational support to officers across the service, helping to ensure work is delivered efficiently, consistently and in line with best practice and legislative requirements. As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will contribute to service performance, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement, working closely with managers, colleagues and partners to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused regulatory services.
Your daily routine will include:
- Providing expert advice and professional support to Environmental Health staff across multiple disciplines
- Undertaking complex inspections, investigations and enforcement work
- Acting as Lead Officer on national and local initiatives when required
- Supporting the Team Leader by providing operational leadership and deputising when necessary
- Preparing reports and representing the authority at meetings and court proceedings
- Contributing to performance management, service planning and improvement work
The post involves working flexibly across all areas of General Environmental Health, responding to service demands and supporting the development of officers and the wider service.
About you
Do you have:
- Extensive experience across General Environmental Health disciplines, including applying relevant legislation, regulations and national policies
- The ability to provide expert technical and operational advice to officers, senior managers and elected members
- Strong experience of leading complex cases, investigations and projects
- Excellent communication, mentoring and coaching skills
- A customer‑focused approach and commitment to delivering high‑quality public services
You will hold:
- A fully qualified Environmental Health Officer holding a BSc or MSc in Environmental Health
- Registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board
