About the Role
I'm working with a growing technology business looking for a Lead AI Engineer to help shape and grow its AI capability. They're looking for a hands-on AI professional with strong computer vision experience who enjoys building and deploying real-world AI solutions. This role would suit someone operating at a senior level, or an existing lead, who wants to take ownership, mentor others, influence technical direction, and progress into a broader leadership position as the team grows. You'll work closely with product and engineering teams on cutting-edge AI, computer vision, and intelligent automation initiatives within a fast-paced, startup environment.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and deploy production AI and computer vision models.
- Develop solutions across image recognition, classification, labelling, and visual analysis.
- Build and optimise LLM and VLM-powered applications.
- Deliver AI solutions across cloud, mobile, and edge environments.
- Build production-grade Python services and APIs.
- Ensure AI solutions are explainable, scalable, and reliable.
- Mentor a junior AI engineer and contribute to technical direction and best practice.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to identify and deliver high-value AI opportunities.
What We're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience developing and deploying AI solutions.
- Proven computer vision experience (essential).
- Strong Python engineering skills.
- Experience with image-based models, LLMs, VLMs, and model optimisation techniques.
- Exposure to MLOps and modern AI deployment practices.
- Experience with edge AI and/or mobile AI solutions is highly desirable.
- Exposure to iOS/mobile development would be advantageous.
- A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to balance innovation with delivery.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge, influence, and take ownership.
