Senior Computer Vision Engineer – London | Hybrid – £70,000 – £80,000 + Benefits
We\’ve partneered with a growing London-based SME (35 employees) specialising in Computer Vision solutions for industrial inspection and automated defect detection. Following continued commercial success and new project wins, they are seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to take ownership of algorithm development and deployment across production‑grade systems.
This is an opportunity to join a technically strong, product‑focused team working on real‑world inspection challenges across manufacturing and high‑precision environments. The role offers significant autonomy and the ability to influence system architecture, tooling choices, and technical direction.
The Role
You will design, develop, and deploy computer vision models focused on defect detection, classification, and quality assurance in production environments. The work spans model development through to real‑time system integration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and optimising object detection and segmentation models for industrial defect detection
- Implementing and improving pipelines using YOLO-based architectures and classical OpenCV approaches
- Training, evaluating, and fine‑tuning deep learning models using real‑world production data
- Deploying models into edge or embedded environments with performance constraints
- Collaborating with software and hardware engineers to integrate vision systems into deployed products
- Contributing to data strategy, annotation standards, and model validation frameworks
- Supporting continuous improvement of model robustness, accuracy, and inference efficiency
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ commercial experience in computer vision or applied machine learning
- Strong practical experience with YOLO (v5/v8 or similar) for object detection
- Solid hands‑on use of OpenCV in production systems
- Experience building and deploying deep learning models using PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Experience working with real‑world, imperfect datasets (imbalance/ edge cases)
- Understanding of model optimisation for real‑time or near real‑time inference
- Experience working in cross‑functional engineering teams
- Experience in industrial inspection, manufacturing, or automated quality control
- Familiarity with edge deployment (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson or similar platforms)
- Knowledge of classical image processing techniques alongside deep learning
- Experience with MLOps, CI/CD pipelines for ML, or containerisation (Docker)
- Exposure to 3D vision or multi-camera systems
- £70,000 – £85,000 base salary (depending on experience)
- Company performance basis
- Hybrid working (2 days a week in office)
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
