We’re working with a mission-driven energy tech start-up that’s reimagining how power is monitored, billed and delivered. Backed by angel investors, my client is building digital tools that support modern energy infrastructure in markets underserved by traditional utilities. This is a founding role.

As the Lead Software Engineer, you’ll be the first technical hire, owning the product end to end and shaping everything from architecture and tooling to engineering culture. You’ll have the opportunity to make the role your own, lay the groundwork for future team growth, and directly influence the direction of the business. You will be building a team and not joining one, so it’s essential you’ve had founding / first-on-the-ground experience like this before.

Role Highlights

  • Architect and build core systems across backend and infrastructure
  • Lead third-party integrations across billing, data and operational services

  • Resolve platform issues across the stack as they arise

You Will Need

  • 7–8+ years of backend development experience in Python
  • Strong experience from the Energy / Utilities / Power sectors
  • Proven record in an early-stage environment or founding engineer capacity
  • Ability to operate independently and take full technical ownership
  • Python (specifically FastAPI), Postgres
  • Typescript
  • AWS - EC2, RDS, CloudFlare
  • UK residency and right to work, visa sponsorship is not available now or planned
