About Lorum

Global payments are not broken. Incentives are. Clearing has been deprioritized inside balance sheet driven institutions whose models rely on lending and interest. When liquidity takes priority over settlement, payments slow and certainty drops. The same financial institutions that distort clearing as providers are disadvantaged as users. They are forced into fragmented setups, inconsistent rails, duplicated compliance, and unpredictable timelines. Stablecoin shortcuts and treasury pooling treat symptoms at the surface, but almost no one is rebuilding the underlying infrastructure in each market.

Rebuilding clearing from the ground up

We are rebuilding clearing as its own specialist function. We act as a clearing and transaction banking partner for regulated institutions, with treasury built into the core so liquidity, settlement, and reconciliation sit in one controlled system. Our platform unifies global and local licenses, direct central bank clearing, and access to domestic rails. We allow clients to open named customer accounts in every market we operate, collecting funds and paying out through a single network while retaining full ownership of their customer relationships. Market expansion becomes as simple as one correspondent relationship, not hundreds.

Why Lorum

Joining Lorum means contributing to one of the most ambitious clearing infrastructure projects in global finance. You will help shape settlement systems that perform under real regulatory standards and institutional volumes. You will build for regulated institutions that rely on precision, predictable timelines, and regulatory integrity. It is about working across currencies, markets, and supervisory frameworks to deliver reliable, final settlement.

Role purpose

As an Engineering Manager at Lorum, you will own delivery for a core part of our clearing and cash management platform. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that engineering work moves forward predictably and to a high standard, applying sound judgement about where rapid iteration is appropriate and where delivery requires deeper rigour due to risk, regulatory impact, or operational sensitivity. Working closely with technical leadership and Product, you will help set the right delivery path - balancing speed, quality, and risk - and turn complex business and regulatory requirements into executable plans. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who values pragmatism, clear trade‑offs, and delivering the right outcome rather than defaulting to either speed or perfection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery & execution
    • Own end‑to‑end delivery for your area of the clearing and cash management platform: planning, execution, and follow‑through.
    • Work with Product and technical leadership to break down goals into clear, achievable delivery plans.
    • Keep work moving: surface risks early, manage trade‑offs, and remove blockers.
    • Establish lightweight, effective delivery rhythms (planning, reviews, retrospectives) that improve over time.
  • Team leadership & coaching
    • Lead and support a growing team of engineers, creating clarity around priorities, expectations, and ownership.
    • Coach engineers through regular feedback and 1:1s, helping them grow in impact and autonomy.
    • Build a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Technical partnership & quality
    • Partner with senior engineers and the CTO to maintain technical quality without slowing delivery.
    • Ensure strong engineering fundamentals: code review, testing, observability, and incident follow-up.
    • Help translate architectural direction into practical, phased execution.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration
    • Work closely with Product, Operations, Compliance, and Security to ensure solutions are fit for regulated, real‑world use.
    • Communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly to stakeholders.
    • Act as a reliable point of coordination between engineering and the rest of the business.
  • Hiring & scaling
    • Own hiring for your team: defining requirements, partnering with Talent, and running an effective, fair interview process.
    • Contribute to wider engineering hiring standards and processes, helping Lorum build a world‑class engineering organisation.
    • Help onboard new joiners and ensure they become productive quickly.

Ideal candidate

You are a delivery‑focused engineering leader who enjoys building teams and shipping meaningful systems, especially in complex or regulated environments.

Must‑Haves

  • Experience managing software engineers with direct people responsibility.
  • A solid engineering background (you’ve built and operated real systems, not just managed them).
  • Strong delivery instincts: you know how to plan work, keep momentum, and adapt when things change.
  • Comfortable working closely with Product and technical leadership to turn ambiguous goals into concrete execution.
  • Clear communicator who brings structure without bureaucracy.

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or clearing and cash management platforms.
  • Exposure to always‑on systems where reliability and correctness matter.
  • Familiarity with modern backend stacks and cloud environments (e.g. Rust, Go, Java; AWS).
  • Experience in an early‑stage or scaling company where roles evolve over time.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to travel (if applicable)
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Private Healthcare
  • Employee stock ownership (ESOP)
  • Flexible working and autonomy
  • Pay it forward days - we offer 2 annual pay it forward days where you can take time to volunteer for a charitable cause that is important to you.
  • Wellness days - we believe you can only work your best when you feel your best, and we know working at Lorum is intense, so we offer 3 wellness days every quarter where you can take time to re‑energise.
