Job overview
Work within the team that supports the radiology IT systems to enable clinicians managing the North Cumbrian population to have radiology images and results at the point of care. Take responsibility for the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) which stores all the radiology imaging for the Trust and Radiology Information System (RIS) which records the radiology pathway for all patients. Work with local partners to ensure the electronic requesting system is clinically effective for radiology examinations and interfaces with radiology systems. Ensure the radiology IT systems are managed with regards to performance, quality assurance, safety and risk management.
Undertake Clinical radiography at base hospital and other sites if required, taking responsibility for the daily organisation of the service as required, amending workload and schedules to adjust for emergencies. Take responsibility for the wellbeing and positive experience of patients and carers in your locality. Participate in research and suggest areas where formal audit and research could aid service quality and development.
It is anticipated that the role will be an average of 60/40% split between clinical radiography and IT system support, although there will be periods of peak activity in either area and thus flexibility in the rota of the post holder is essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide a radiology service across North Cumbria comprising general radiography, dental, fluoroscopy, angiography (incl. coronary), Bone Densitometry (DXA), CT, MRI and ultrasound facilities. Referrals for radiological opinion come from a wide range of specialities typically encountered within a district general hospital, including 24 hour emergencies. General and Dental practitioners also refer patients into the service. The establishment includes consultant radiologists, Trust Lead, radiographers, nurses, clerical and radiographic support staff.

Qualifications
- Degree BSc in Radiography or equivalent
- Relevant post graduate diploma or equivalent. Certificate of competence in IV administration.
Knowledge and Experience
- Well developed diagnostic radiography within an acute hospital.
- Moving & handling the non-independently mobile, including those with multiple injuries
- Good working knowledge of CRIS / PACS.
- Continuing professional development with portfolio.
- Patient care.
- Signs of deteriorating health and first level life support is.
- Moving and handling techniques.
- Pathology recognition.
- Trust policies and procedures.
- Speciality specific through personally directed study and training.
- Use of PC.
