INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

This is a 18-month fixed-term opportunity to play a pivotal role in promoting medicines safety across Acute and Community services. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the development of medicines safety education and training programmes, as well as leading their delivery and evaluation in close collaboration with the Medicines Safety Team to ensure staff are confident and competent in safe medicines management practices—ultimately enhancing patient safety and quality of care.

Main duties of the job

Planning and delivering training for nursing, non medical prescribing and medical staff including Trust Induction, preceptorship and bespoke sessions

Education around time critical medicines is a priority, but training will be delivered depending on needs of staff and clinical areas.

The post holder will actively contribute to reducing medication errors and improve medicine ownership by fostering a culture of safety, openness, and continuous learning. This includes supporting cultural change around incident reporting, promoting transparency, and encouraging safe practices.

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00 Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00 Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with a diploma/degree or Registered member of the GPhC
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Evidence of post-registration professional development
  • Mentorship qualification or practice supervisor and assessor preparation course or equivalent
  • Teaching Qualification

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice
  • Significant experience working in an acute or community setting
  • Experience of supporting and assessing learners
  • Knowledge of the Royal College of Pharmacy professional guidance on the safe and secure handling of medicines
  • Demonstrable experience in safe medicines administration and adherence to medicines management policies
  • Knowledge of time critical medicines
  • Applying clinical governance frameworks

  • Access to use of a car with business insurance is essential as travelling and transporting equipment between training venues and sites will be required
  • Ability to work flexibly and cross site
