Southwark College, part of NCG, is looking to recruit a talented English lecturer to join our English staff for a September 2026 start. Due to high levels of student recruitment, we are looking to expand the size of our English teaching team. Based at the Southwark College site, in The Cut, close to Waterloo Station, the successful candidate will be part of a large team of GCSE English staff.

The role involves teaching GCSE English to students aged 16-18 on Study Programme classes and a mixture of Functional Skills at Level 1 and GCSE English to Adult classes. We have excellent resources and a modern suite of English classrooms.

Responsibilities:
  • To teach GCSE English to students aged 16-18 years old using a variety of teaching methods.
  • To teach Functional Skills English at Level 1 and GCSE English to Adult Learners.
  • To contribute to the review, planning and development of the English curriculum at Southwark College.
  • To work with the English team to develop Schemes of Learning, lesson plans and new teaching materials.
  • To devise and implement a range of assessment activities.
  • To assess student work and provide feedback to support learners in developing their skills and achieving their potential.
  • To contribute to the GCSE and Functional Skills English strategies to improve student achievement and retention.
