About the Role

We’re seeking a proactive, technically skilled, and customer-focused Field Engineer to support our London operations. You’ll be a key part of NCG’s service delivery team, working hands-on across customer environments to install, maintain, and troubleshoot network and connectivity infrastructure. This position is ideal for someone with experience in structured cabling and network equipment installation and who enjoys variety, independence, and direct customer interaction, while taking pride in delivering work to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain structured cabling systems (Cat6/Cat6a, fibre). This includes installation, termination, testing, fault finding, and cabinet dressing to NCG's quality and industry standards.
  • Act as on-site hands for remote engineers, providing physical support during customer incidents, hardware replacements, and network troubleshooting.
  • Respond to Priority 1 (P1) incidents across London, attending customer sites within SLA.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Service Operations Manager and internal engineering teams to align on daily priorities and ensure service quality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, site notes, and asset records within internal systems.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and manage field equipment and consumables.

You may be asked to assist a remote engineer by providing onsite support, including:

  • Carrying out Wi‑Fi surveys and supporting the deployment and testing of access points (using tools such as Ekahau, NetSpot, or similar).
  • Supporting AV and meeting‑room installations, including physical setup and basic fault resolution.
  • Performing basic network and Wi‑Fi diagnostics (switches, access points, firewalls) and escalating issues to senior engineers when needed.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in a field-based IT, network, or cabling engineer role.
  • Strong working knowledge of structured cabling installations and best practices.
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, IP addressing, VLANs, Wi-Fi).
  • Experience working with network equipment vendors such as Juniper, Meraki, UniFi, or Ruckus (desirable).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a calm and professional approach.
  • Strong organisation and time management, able to manage multiple customer sites and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with the wider team.
  • Flexible, solutions-focused attitude with a commitment to quality workmanship and service excellence.
  • Valid UK driving license (preferred).

Why NCG?

  • Work with a fast-growing Managed Service Provider delivering enterprise-grade connectivity and network solutions.
  • Exposure to a wide range of technologies and vendors across dynamic customer environments.
  • Supportive team culture, with ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Opportunities for career progression within network engineering or service operations.
