Overview
Newcastle College is seeking an enthusiastic Transition Mentor to support looked after children to progress into further education.
You will work with young people in schools, including unaccompanied asylum seekers, helping them to make positive choices about their education and to transition successfully from Year 11 into Newcastle College.
You will work with young people at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), delivering tailored, person-centred support to help them overcome barriers, raise aspirations and build the confidence needed to succeed and progress.
You will be an enthusiastic and adaptable person, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to inclusive education.
You will have Level 2 English & Maths or equivalent and be able to work flexibly.
A clean driving license and access to your own transport is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide tailored, person-centred support to looked after children and other young people to enable progression from Year 11 into college.
- Support students in schools, including unaccompanied asylum seekers, to make positive educational choices and plan transitions effectively.
- Identify and address barriers to progress, raise aspirations, and build the confidence needed to succeed and progress into further education or training.
- Collaborate with colleges, schools, and partners to coordinate support and monitor progress.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and welfare activities as appropriate.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Level 2 English and Mathematics or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to individual needs.
