Southwark College, part of NCG, is looking to recruit a talented Learning Mentor to support our Young ESOL students, aged 16-18, who have recently arrived in the UK. The ideal candidate would be able to start on September 25, but we are open to later start dates for exceptional candidates. Based at our Southwark College site near Waterloo Station, the successful candidate will join a large ESOL teaching team.

The main duties of the post holder include:

  • Teaching the tutorial curriculum to Young ESOL students in weekly group tutorials.
  • Holding 1-to-1 meetings with students to support their studies.
  • Supporting the curriculum team in addressing issues like poor attendance and behavioural problems, involving liaison with student services and external agencies.
  • Assisting students outside of lessons to complete assessments.
  • Planning and leading local student field trips in London.
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance and progress for Young ESOL students.
