We are seeking a skilled and motivated Project Building Surveyor to support the delivery of capital, refurbishment and maintenance projects across our College estate. Working as part of the Estates and Capital Projects team, you will provide professional building surveying expertise across a varied property portfolio, managing projects from early concept and feasibility through design, procurement, construction and completion. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in enhancing learning environments while contributing to long‑term estate sustainability and improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver refurbishment, maintenance and improvement projects, ensuring completion on time, within budget, and to required standards.
  • Undertake building surveys and condition assessments to inform maintenance strategies and capital planning.
  • Prepare specifications, drawings and tender documentation for building projects.
  • Act as a Contract Administrator, managing tender processes, contractor performance and project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, health & safety legislation, fire safety and accessibility standards.
  • Provide early‑stage cost estimates to support budget setting and business case development.
  • Monitor project costs and ensure value for money throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors and statutory bodies.
  • Contribute to planned preventive maintenance programmes and estate sustainability goals.

What we’re looking for

  • A degree in Building Surveying, Construction or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in building surveying and delivering construction or refurbishment projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, health & safety and statutory compliance.
  • Experience of contract administration and managing consultants and contractors.
  • Good financial awareness, including cost planning and budget monitoring.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to sustainability and energy‑efficient building practices.
  • Membership of, or progress towards membership of, RICS or an equivalent professional body is desirable.
